Summer Reading

Summer break is a great time for students to read. Not only is summer reading a fun way to pass the time but it also leads to academic success by developing a solid core of knowledge. It expands the horizons of children as they learn more about people and cultures as well as improves vocabulary and spelling by exposing children to new words. Reading during the summer continues to strengthen reading skills developed during the year.

Continue reading the parent letter regarding summer reading by clicking here.

Suggested reading for summer and throughout the year:
            3rd Grade         4th Grade       5th Grade

We encourage parents to involve their children in a national, state-led summer reading initiative. Georgia is launching the 2014 Summer Reading Challenge. The challenge for each 3rd-5th grader is to read 8 chapter books during the summer. The above reading lists will help students identify books they might be interested in, but the Lexile "Find a Book" website can as well by giving students the ability to create custom lists based on interests and reading level. You will find a link to this site on the OCES Quick Links Menu. For more detailed information about this challenge, lexiles and more, click here. Have a great summer and READ, READ, READ!!

Oconee County Elementary has once again received the Title 1 Distinguished School Award! This is the 7th year in a row that OCES has been presented with this award. A special thanks to goes to Carol Reddish, our Title 1 teacher, for all her hardwork. Congratulations!

We welcome you to our school!  OCES is an exciting place to be! This website will provide you with information about our school, students, instructional program and community.  We are pleased with the continual success of our students and their teacher's instructional commitment.  We are fortunate to have a strong foundation of support from our parents, the community and the Board of Education. Without their support, the degree of success we have achieved would not be possible.
