Jones and Thornton Propel Titans with Top-Ten finishes in Atlanta Classic

Seniors Tyler Jones and Cole Thornton validated their high individual rankings in the three-state, 31-team field at the Atlanta Classic on Saturday at Clinton Nature Preserve in Douglasville. Jones ran 16:07 to finish 6th with Thornton 9th in 16:14. A timing chip irregularity caused the Titans to sacrifice a top-five team finisher, but the team took 5th nonetheless. Chiles High of Tallahassee, a state powerhouse, was the team champion. Anthony Potts claimed 20th place in 16:56; Andrew Cowick was 71st in 17:56, and Ethan Faber rounded out the top five with a 97th place finish (18:25). Another Titan varsity runner  lost a shoe in a frantic race start and was unable to continue.

Ryan Roddy led the JV with a 30th place finish in 18:42.

The Lady Titans showed a tremendous pack-running ability, with Amy Stanaland (41st in 21:02) and Allie Dominicali (43rd in 21:10) leading the way. Sophie Brown contributed 49th place (21:19). Senior Emma Lowring ran 61st in 21:35. Melanie Bowden (68th in 21:53) rounded out the top-five runners. Amelia Veal ran 69th in 21:56.25 with  Hollis Brown close behind, 70th in  21.56.50. Gabby Huff-Streiter ran 22:14, good for 80th place. The Lady Titans ran to a 9th place finish among 29 teams.

Amy Gayer had the top spot in the JV division (29th in 23:46).

The Titans race next on Saturday, Oct. 11th in the Alexander High School/Asics XC Invitational at Fox Hall Farms Sporting Club.

SUPPORT THE NOHS ACADEMIC TEAM

Posted by Tiffany Alexander

Posted on 08:09, Tuesday, September 23

The NOHS Academic Team has teamed up with Domino's Pizza to raise funds for this season's competition and travel expenses.  We are offering a $10 Slice the Price Card which is good until June 30, 2015.  This allows you to buy a large pizza at regular price and get a free large pizza of equal or lesser value.  You may use it an unlimited number of times between now and the expiration date, and you may purchase any number of pizzas at a time and get the free matching pizzas.  For example, if you are hosting an event and you need 10 large pizzas, you can buy 5 and get 5 free! It's a great deal! The card pays for itself the first time it's used.  The card is good at any Domino's location in many Georgia counties, as well as in several neighboring states.

Please consider supporting our team in this effort.  You can purchase from any Academic Team member.  If you are interested, let either of us know, and we will send a team member your way!  We will need to collect your money now, and  you will receive your card around October 15.
